Peter Marsh, violin
Peter Marsh, violinist, violist, conductor, was for 23 years (1957 - 1981) 1st violinist of the famed Lenox Quartet (N. Y. Times: “One of the finest quartets this country has yet or national produced”; Chicago American: “On a par with the best and second to none of any age or national origin”; Los Angeles Mirror: “ A quartet in a hundred” ) . Their first Beethoven cycle, in New York City, was in 1962, and in 1963 a Haydn-Schubert-Bartok Cycle. In addition to concerts in the United States, Marsh who has played thousands of performances worldwide, is still very active as a performer in recitals and chamber music. During the school year he is Director of String Chamber Music at the University of Southern California's Thornton Schooled of Music. He was a full-time professor at Indiana University, Ithaca College, Western Washington University and SUNY Binghamton; also as Artist-in-Residence at California Institute of the Arts and Grinnell College. He currently tours Korea in May, Alaska (Fairbanks Festival of the Arts), Brazil (Rio International Cello Encounter XII) and France (Franco-Americaine Rencontre de Musique de Chambre at the Chateau de la Bretesche in Missillac) in July and August.
